Last week I found the following truck for sale.
1993 F350 - Single Rear Axle
5.8 Liter aka 351
Automatic
70,000 miles
8' Western Plow
Factory Reese Hitch
4 Newer tires
Manual Lockout Hubs
I stopped and talked to the owners and they said it needs a transmission and they can not afford to fix it. I got in it and it started right up the first try. The interior is gross and it needs a really good scrubbing. My friend owns a transmission shop not more than a mile from where this is located.
They said $800 OBO, I really think $500 cash could take it.
What do you guys think? I know my buddy will charge me at least $800 for a transmission. It is a ford with the dual tank setup so it will need gas tanks. _________________ Come quick I found a troll and I captured him.... |

Sounds like a 3k truck. 500 to purchase + 2500 to get it where it needs to be for reliable, safe driving. _________________ I tried cutting off a few fingers. But, forgot to plug in the saw. |

How's the body? Swiss Cheese, or is relatively solid. _________________ In over my head.... |

My hatred for Ford aside, I'll elaborate on my response...
Being a 93, I assume an amount of rot. Onced the body breaks free of the frame, the truck loses a lot of strength. Having the plow on it would not be a selling point for me. For me, that detracts value since the truck has been beat on. Rotted body mounts break, frame tweaks, etc...
I am not a fan of the 351 or 460. Both are dogs compared to the amount of fuel they want. We had a 1 ton Ford van with a reman 351 in it and it was the worst tow rig we ever owned. The 300 I6 and 302/5.0 were the best motors Ford ever built.
The trans being shot just seals the deal for me. I wouldn't want it. Depending what's wrong in the transmission, prices can climb very quickly. The cost for a rebuild of clutches, steels, bands, and seals can easilly double if broken hard parts are found inside.
Add to that all of the normal stuff that will need to be gone through.... U-joints, steering, brakes, shocks, etc.
$500 + a Junkyard transmission would buy you a nice plow truck for your yard, but to use it as a reliable tow rig will take some cash.

| If you don't buy this, let me know. I need a truck to plow my trail of a driveway. |
