Ok 258 aficionados need advice/info.
After much debate I've decided to stay with my I6, maybe someday I'll drop in a 360 (or SBC) but for right now the 258 will do what I need it to. Too many other things that I want/need to do to the old girl.
I ended up getting an MC2100 on ebay, I bid on it before I realized that it was a 1.21 and not a 1.8 (351 CFM as opposed to 287) Question, is the 1.21 too much carb for a stock 358? Or can I drop #47 jets in it when I do the rebuild and be ok? Thinking anything will be better than the BBD that I have on there now.
Also
My cast iron exhaust manifold, while is still serviceable is heavy as Hell. I'm thinking hard about putting headers on the 258, any performance improvement no matter how small wouldn't hurt either.
I'm going to run a new exhaust from front to back as my pipes have seen better days and I'm wondering about dropping some additional coin on headers when I do... Anybody have any experience with the Headman headers for the 258? Also looking at Clifford Performance headers but I'm not sure if they will work with the stock intake or if I will need to buy their intake.

Why not put a 4.0 head intake and exhaust and fuel inject that rig...reliability and power...carbs are way in the past........ _________________ turd wagon repowered ....."NEW" .....now with rev limiter! |

It would be just like your street jeep crank for 30 sec than it fires. _________________ Owner of "The Big Tire Job

Ok, now that you mention FI... what are the pros/cons to the 4.3 Chebby junk yard swap as opposed to a setup from an XJ? I mean other than Jeep vs. Cheb.
I think the guy that bought my XJ still has it, could probably have the head and FI setup for what he gave me for the XJ (he bought it for scrap, wish I had known that I was going to look at doing this, I would have taken it off before he took it) _________________
